In a very thrilling 3rd JNEC Open final, Sherubtse College disappointed the home team by a sole goal in the match played on 18th March.
First half was full of agonizing drama with JNEC hitting the bar thrice. Although the first half ended with a goalless draw, the teams never failed to entertain the spectators. JNEC continued to pressure the Sherubtse defence in the second half but could find the net.
To the disappointment of the home crowd, in the 70th minutes, Mr. Bijay of Sherubtse chipped the ball into the net which was enough to seal the victory. Sherubtse College took the championship trophy with a cash prize of Nu. 70,000. The runners-up of the tournament were awarded a cash prize of Nu. 35000. Mr. Tenzin Thinley of Sherubtse College was awarded the top scorer of the tournament with seven goals.
This year a total of 18 teams participated in the tournament.
