Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) welcomed an entourage of teachers and top-performing students from Karmaling Higher Secondary School, Samdrup Jongkhar, on 14 August 2026 for an educational field visit. The visit was aimed at exposing students to state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities while providing them with an opportunity to explore higher education programmes and career pathways offered at JNEC.

During the visit, the students received a guided tour of the college’s facilities and gained valuable hands-on experience at the FabLab. They were introduced to practical applications of digital fabrication and innovation through activities such as basic CAD design, live 3D printing, laser cutting, and heat printing on ceramic materials. These activities enabled the students to connect concepts learned in the classroom with real-world technological applications.

The students also visited the Ground Station, where they were introduced to the fundamentals of satellite communication. They learned about satellite tracking, digital modulation, signal transmission and reception, and the use of high-frequency antennas. The exposure provided an insight into how communication technologies and engineering principles are applied in practical settings.

In addition, the students explored the various academic and support resources available on the JNEC campus, including laboratories, facilities, and the college library. The visit also served as an opportunity for students to learn more about higher study courses and the academic opportunities available at JNEC.

The visiting students described the field trip as an exceptional initiative by both Karmaling Higher Secondary School and JNEC. They appreciated the opportunity to experience advanced facilities firsthand, understand the practical applications of technologies they encounter in their studies, and engage with innovation beyond the classroom. The exposure was seen as an encouraging and motivating experience that could help students make informed decisions about their future studies and careers in science, technology, and engineering.
