His Excellency Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi, Opposition Leader visited Jigme Namgyel Engineering College on 2nd May, 2022. His Excellency met with the faculty, staff and students of the college and expressed thanks to the family of JNEC for the warm welcome and opportunity to be with staff and students.
In his address to staff and students, he shared about the legacies and significant contributions of the Third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck popularly known as the father of modern Bhutan. He expressed his deep gratitude to His Majesty for introducing modern education in the country and for joining as United Nations member state in 1971.
His Excellency also emphasized his talk on the importance of technical personnel and skilled professionals. He stressed that the world developed countries such as America is not built by the university graduates but by the skilled professionals. “So, it is evident how important technical people are and how important skilled workforce are for the advancement of the nation” he said. Hence, His Excellency spoke on the significance of universities and technical colleges like Jigme Namgyel Engineering College that produces competent and skilled workforce in the country. He termed the university as the “real fountainhead of knowledge and skills” and the students the “real guiding light” that will lead the nation forward.
His Excellency also shared to gathering on the current status and advancement of the country, where numerous transformations are taking place with the major reformations in the area of Civil Service, Education, Economic and the introduction of Gyalsuung project in the country. His Excellency thus reminded the gathering that if somebody aspires to move forward, one must not have illusions but have these five skills, knowledge, skills, values, communication skills, and digital skills.
