7th July 2026, marked the formal handing-taking ceremony of the College Presidency at Jigme Namgyel Engineering College, signifying an important transition in the institutionβs leadership. The ceremony was followed by a campus site visit.
Since assuming office in August 2021, Dr. Tshewang Lhendup has led JNEC through a period of significant academic, infrastructural and institutional transformation. His tenure strengthened governance through the development and revision of key policies, guidelines and operational frameworks.
Academic development advanced through the review of seven diploma programmes, the introduction of a six-month industrial attachment, and the launch of new diploma programmes in Construction Supervision, Multimedia and Animation, and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing. His tenure also saw the reinstatement of the BE in Power Engineering and the commencement of the joint BSc in Cyber Security with GCIT.
Dr. Tshewang played an instrumental role in introducing CIPS as an examination and study centre, establishing an important international learning platform to support the countryβs growing demand for professional procurement expertise. Under his leadership, JNEC was assessed for institutional accreditation by the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC), while the Diploma in Computer Systems and Network and the Diploma in Electrical Engineering were assessed for ASIIN certification.
Among many, the major infrastructure developments included the construction of the Mechanical Engineering building and staff quarters, the JNEC Chhoekhang, and the renovation of hostels, laboratories, workshops, roads, and water systems. He also strengthened research and innovation, mobilising approximately Nu. 53.4 million and supporting 34 research publications.
JNEC further expanded its national and international partnerships, staff and student exchanges, industry linkages, community engagement and campus recruitment. Graduate employment increased from 73.49 percent in 2022 to approximately 97 percent in 2026, reflecting stronger industry relevance and career preparation.
As we bid farewell to our outgoing President, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his visionary leadership, unwavering dedication and invaluable contributions to the growth of the College. His leadership has left a lasting impact on the JNEC community.
As he begins a new chapter as President of the College Of Science And Technology., we wish him continued success, fulfilment and excellence in leadership.
