October 30, 2026, Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC), Royal University of Bhutan, received the Special Recognition Award for Supply Chain Education Development at the Supply Chain Asia Awards 2026, held at the Conrad Bangkok, Thailand.

Presented before nearly 400 CEOs, global supply chain innovators, and regional industry leaders, the award recognizes JNEC’s sustained contributions to developing a skilled supply chain and procurement workforce for Bhutan and the wider region.

In today’s fast-evolving technological landscape, procurement and supply chain management have moved beyond back-office functions to become drivers of national strategy, economic resilience, and sustainable development.

Launched in 2015 to address skills shortages in Bhutan’s infrastructure, construction, and public procurement sectors, JNEC’s Diploma in Materials and Procurement Management (DMPM) combines academic rigor with practical industry experience. Its curriculum develops competencies aligned with national priorities, including:

  • Material Requirements Planning (MRP), inventory modeling, digital procurement systems, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) Procurement Rules and Regulations, ethical tendering, basic accounting, and supplier performance evaluation.
  • Sustainability and eco-procurement, including green purchasing principles that support sustainable regional supply chains.
  • Practical industry experience through mandatory attachments, real-world case studies, site visits, and engagement with government procurement agencies and private enterprises.

Over the past decade, the DMPM program has built a strong record of academic achievement and industry relevance.

  • It has grown from an inaugural cohort of 21 students to more than 320 graduates across 10 cohorts.
  • More than 80% of graduates secure employment within 12 months, with many recruited upon completion.
  • Alumni contribute across Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) companies, state-owned enterprises, government ministries, and leading private firms.

Building on this international recognition and responding to growing regional demand for supply chain leadership, JNEC is advancing plans to upgrade the diploma to a Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain and Procurement Management. The expanded programme will prepare future leaders to manage complex, technology-driven global supply chains.

“Receiving this honor on a global platform alongside Asia’s top industry leaders validates JNEC’s educational model. This recognition belongs to our visionary leadership, dedicated faculty, industry partners, and, above all, our ambitious students and alumni, who continue to strengthen Bhutan’s economic infrastructure.”

Jigme Namgyel Engineering College thanks Supply Chain Asia and the Awards Committee for recognizing institutional excellence and providing a platform to showcase Bhutan’s growing technical leadership internationally.
