S-LAB: Shared Learning between Austria and Bhutan for enhancing sustainability in the built environment funded by APPEAR Academic Partnership, Austria.
Jigme Namgyel Engineering College, in collaboration with Graz University of Technology (TU Graz), Austria, has received APPEAR funding for the project under the 11th call for academic partnerships. The project aims to advance knowledge and build capacity in building energy efficiency, sustainability, and resilience through a socio-technical approach. It seeks to become a national centre of excellence for research, training, and gender-inclusive education. The project aligns with APPEAR’s goals by fostering knowledge exchange and clean energy solutions to help develop a skilled workforce for Bhutan’s sustainable and greener future.
The main aim of the project is to develop human capacity and provide the necessary resources to support state-of-the-art research and training in building physics and sustainable design.
Key objectives of the project:
- Equipping a modern research and training centre in Bhutan.
- The development of a bespoke ‘micro-credentials’ scheme, providing advanced diploma level training in Building Physics, Building Energy Modelling and Energy efficiency.
- Creating the foundation for ongoing applied research and consultancy projects that explore regionally appropriate practices for achieving healthy, net zero carbon buildings in Bhutan.
